How To Get Lucky

There are days when we don’t feel as lucky as others:

  • When we spill coffee on our white blouse
  • When we realize, while we’re presenting, there’s a typo in our slide deck
  • When our boss takes all the credit for the team’s work

When we feel down on our luck, it’s easy to simmer in our own misery and misfortune, believing that the world is conspiring against us.

I can guarantee that if you want to feel depressed, hopeless, and discouraged, the world will give you evidence to reinforce your feelings. And when you go there, it’s easy to stay there, build a house there, and choose to live in this space for a very long time.

Don’t do that, though. That’s not a way to live a life. It’s really hard to reach your potential when you keep coming home to a negative, dark emotions.

You can change how you think, though. And when you do, you change your life.

Today’s St. Patrick’s Day. Remember when we were told to pinch other people who weren’t wearing green? Don’t do that, either – especially at work. *

Instead, I want you to pinch yourself. And remind yourself of these five, critically important truths about life – truths that are positive, inspired. Truths that you can build your house on top of because they represent a healthy foundation for living your life as The Actual – The Actual you. The best version of yourself.

1. You were born to do great things.  Each one of us has unique talents and gifts that make the world a better place to live.

2. You were born to shine.  There’s a spotlight out there that’s been searching for you – it’s waiting to put you right in the center because it knows it’s your moment.

3. You’ve got a great vision for how your life can be.  You might even dream about this – you know what’s possible.

4. You have free will.  You can change.  You can choose to lead your life.

5. Today is a great day to start.  Don’t wait for a new year, a new beginning of a month, the weekend.  Make a decision to start today.

Go out there – get lucky!
